Glendale– On a night when the Detroit Tigers blew a chance at a Game 7 in the ALCS, the Detroit Red Wings were tasked to give the city of Detroit something to smile about.

They were succeeding, until the third period.

Leading 2-1 at the end of the second period, Detroit watched as the Phoenix Coyotes jumped out and scored two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead. As the third period came to a close, the Red Wings pulled their goalie, gambling that the 6-on-5 advantage would help them tie the game. That gamble backfired in the worst of ways.

Ouch. It’s bad enough when you give up an empty net goal, but to a goalie?! Might as well forfeit the rest of the season. Looks like Detroit has further cemented their position as the co-laughing stock of the sports world, alongside Cleveland.
