EXCLUSIVE: Bulls G Derrick Rose misses Game 3 after accidentally biting his lip
- Updated: May 10, 2013

The talk all week has been “will Derrick Rose return for the Bulls in Game 3″? Some actually even believed he might (those people should be drug tested). Things were headed in the right direction…until a horrifying accident Friday morning.
Derrick was getting amped up for Game 3 eating a grown up breakfast of Fruity Pebbles, and then the unthinkable happened. He accidentally bit his lip. He bust into tears because the pain was so unbearable.
He panicked because he had no idea what to do. Should he go to the emergency room? Did he even have the strength to stand? Should he call coach Thibodeau? Would he be “mentally ready” to do any of this?
Finally after two hours of mentally struggling, he got up and hobbled his way to his medicine cabinet. He popped some leftover pain pills he had from his injury. It felt a little better. But he knew there was no way he could play in Game 3.
He found the strength to call Tom Thibodeau and told him the bad news. Coach Thibodeau told him he understood and hoped he’d have his best cheerleader in uniform. Rose promised he would fight as hard as he could to be there.
Coach Thibodeau felt bad for Derrick so he didn’t elaborate as to why Rose would not play in Game 3. “He’s just not ready yet,” coach Thibodeau said. But now you know the rest of the story. Poor Derrick just can’t catch a break.
