VIDEO: Mets Pitcher Bartolo Colon Doubles For 1st Hit in 9 Years

When the news first broke regarding this remarkable event, there was some initial confusion.

Let’s be honest. Even if you had heard the phrase “Bartolo Colon got a double”, you would have assumed it was referring to Shake Shack cheeseburgers, right?. Well, for once, you would be incorrect.

Bartolo Colon with a batting helmet on his head and a bat in his hands is astronomical in more ways than one. On one day, his swing can be like a solar eclipse – you really want to watch, but it is probably best for your own health if you didn’t.

Then something magical happens and, like Haley’s Comet, a base hit makes a rare and spectacular appearance. Sadly, the ball rattled around the outfield fence, denying us the opportunity to witness a close play. Nonetheless, our scientists here at NOTSportsCenter have been able to provide a visual approximation of what it would have looked like had Colon needed to slide into second base.
