VIDEO: Orioles ball girl makes great play….on a fair ball

A San Diego Padres ball girl set the bar pretty high on Opening Night. We continue to see many contenders to the throne. Some are equally as spectacular, if a little too eager. One Orioles ball girl made a play ranging far to her left to snag a ground ball, leaving many Baltimore fans in attendance salivating for the return of injured third baseman Manny Machado. Unfortunately for her, the third base umpire has ruled the ball fair after it bounced over the bag.

To her credit, she was quite apologetic afterward, which had to be quite a sight for fans who have been eager to see anyone in an Orioles uniform apologize over the last 16 seasons.

We are not going to go so far as to say that she was the best defender on the field for the home team that day. However, we will point out that – with the score tied 1-1 at the time of her gold glove effort – not only did she potentially (if only temporarily) save a run on that play, the Orioles proceeded to give up 10 more runs without her involved on defense thereafter.

Then again, it is not like she can pitch. Wait….can she pitch? Someone might want to get Orioles manager Buck Showalter in touch with her just in case. They could definitely use the help.
